Fun with July 4th Fashion

Happy July friends! July is my favorite month of the year for many reasons! We’re fully into summer and it’s usually hot! Heat, sun, flowers, blue skies…all make me happy! July makes me think of fun outdoor activities with family and friends like going to the pool, cookouts, vacationing, July 4th fireworks and celebrations…did I mention my birthday is July 4th?! Probably for that reason I love to decorate my house both indoors and outdoors in patriotic colors and wear red, white and blue! Do you like to decorate, dress and celebrate the 4th?

Truly, the whole summer season feels very patriotic. Memorial Day kicks off the season, followed by the Fourth of July, and finally Labor Day unofficially closing the season. There are many chances to wear our red, white and blue. In fact, you don’t even need a holiday for an excuse; red, white, and blue can be worn all summer long.

American Vibes

Jean Shorts

Jean shorts seem like a summer staple and can be worn all season and into the fall. Jean shorts are a perfect place to start your look especially if you’re wanting to be casual. Why not pair your jean shorts with a little sparkle and some sequins for a slightly elevated look? These distressed Bermuda jean shorts are a recent purchase from Old Navy. They have a nice amount of stretch in them and if you’re at all self-conscious about your thighs, they give nice coverage. I’ve paired it with not one but two sequined tops…a red sequin tank top underneath my navy blue and white striped sequined t-shirt. Silver slides and red, white and blue accessories complete this look.

If sequins aren’t your thing, you could easily wear a striped blue and white t-shirt with a red tank top or even a solid colored t-shirt in your preferred color. Accessories are always a must for me in order for me to feel finished and polished. Now is the perfect time to add some holiday pieces to your collection if you don’t already have some.

Necklace: Previously Purchased at Stein Mart
The bracelets are actually three separate pieces, which I’ve had for some time. I like to layer and stack my bracelets of course you could easily just wear one or two.

This t-shirt is oversized and could easily be worn over bike shorts or leggings. (To see our previous blog post on bike shorts, click HERE.) I wanted a more fitted look so I tied the sides together in a knot. The tee is slightly sheer so I’m wearing a bralette. To say I’ve been on a quest for a bralette is an understatement. I recently purchased this bralette at Flair on 3rd Boutique in Geneva. This particular bralette is simply worn over your own bra, which is a major win for me! Bralettes are intended to be seen and yet provide coverage. The sleeves on the t-shirt could be pulled down further if I wanted a full bare shoulder.

Jeans

Not all patriotic holiday looks need to be red, white and blue. This look can easily be worn for Independence Day or any time of year. It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of all things stars. Stars have been and continue to be trending on all items of clothing. This star burnout crop top can easily be worn over any color. I paired it with a silver tank. The jeans are embellished with star appliques and sequined stars. I’ve added my star earrings and necklace and silver slides. For a pop of color, I added my red sunnies! This actually might be one of my favorite looks!

White Jeans & White Pants

White jeans and white pants are wardrobe staples, which you probably already own. These looks are slightly more dressy but can also be styled more casual. The color combination of the top caught my eye because it’s red, white, blue and pink! Love the addition of pink and can easily be worn year round. I wore this look last year to a Memorial Day Festival to watch my husband’s band play. I was probably overdressed for an outdoor festival but you know that I don’t care! Any solid colored top would look great with the white jeans and don’t forget you’re accessories!

This navy blue with sequined stars t-shirt can easily be worn with shorts and jeans. It pairs great with these wide leg white pants. Styling tip, if you go wide on the bottom half of your body, go more fitted on the top half. These wide leg, high waisted pants are super comfortable and very cool especially if it’s hot out. Silver slides are a great investment and go with so many looks – from casual to dressy! In the past, I’ve worn the sequin star top with jean shorts.

This flag clutch is covered in sequins and beads. It’s the perfect accessory!

Sequins

Sequins and July 4th go hand in hand don’t you think?! You knew I would need to have a whole separate category for holiday sequin looks in addition to the ones previously shared! Besides Christmas and New Year’s, July 4th is the perfect holiday to go blingy! You can wear a little bit of sequins or go full out! Which do you think I prefer?! LOL!

Red Shorts: My Closet (J.C. Penney’s)

This navy blue t-shirt is covered in round sequins in a multitude of colors. I also have this t-shirt in white. The navy tshirt came out two years ago. They brought out the white tshirt last year. If you love something, I recommend buying multiples. Both would go great with white shorts, white jeans, jeans, jean shorts…you get the idea. I opted for my red shorts.

This sequin look is super comfortable! The shorts are pull on and came out last year around Pride celebrations in June. The multi-colored sequin striped sides caught my attention! The shorts pair great with this sequin multi color star t-shirt. This is a look I wear all summer long and is perfect for the 4th!

I added a little side twist to give the t-shirt a little more shape and not interfere with the stars at the hem of the t-shirt.

The star sunnies were purchased in a boutique in South Dakota two years ago while we were on vacation.

Pattern Shorts

Last weeks blog featured all the ways to wear gingham and I featured these navy blue gingham shorts. (To see that blog post, click HERE.) The gingham shorts are perfect for July 4th. A plain navy blue top and a white denim vest were easy to add to the shorts. I added my red, white and blue scarf and a vintage Trifari flag pin that was a birthday gift from my dear friend Cindy. (To read a previous blog post on Trifari Jewelry, click HERE.)

These red shorts with embroidered white stars are perfect for any July 4th celebration! This graphic Party in the USA t-shirt keeps the look casual and comfortable.

In my opinion, Old Navy always has a great selection of July 4th/Independence Day T-Shirts for the whole family. You can always get them on sale and have them for years to come. I grabbed a couple this year for my self. This t-shirt has tiny stars, which are a little difficult to see. Why not wear a star t-shirt with the star shorts?!

July 4th Celebrations

I’ve always loved having my birthday on July 4th and was often told I was “born with a bang”! I was actually due to be born on July 7th. My mom tells me that it was raining on July 4th, 1961 and the family picnic was in question so why not go have a baby?! It was and always will be special because I was born on my paternal grandmother’s birthday so it was always a dual celebration. I’m pretty sure the fireworks are for me…right?!

Katy Perry says, “‘Cause baby you’re a firework
Come on show ’em what your worth
Make ’em go “Oh, oh, oh!”
As you shoot across the sky-y-y.” That’s my plan as I head into 5-9! I intend to make chapter 59 one not to be forgotten!

My 1st Birthday! I think my mom looks like she’s out of a magazine – 1962! The cake on the table is on a white platter. You’ll see that white platter in almost every birthday picture so it must have been special. I still have it!
Apparently, I needed some encouragement to dive into my cake!
Many of my cakes were red, white and blue!
My favorite cake as a child had Cinderella’s carriage on it! Unfortunately, the pictures are difficult to see so I didn’t include it.
You can see my birthday candle on the table. Every year it got pulled out and the old age was burned down until the new age was reached. It was a fun tradition. My mom still buys that candle for a special and unique baby shower gift! I still have the gold bracelet I’m wearing here. My granddaughter Violet has also worn it in several portraits.
Celebrating my birthday with my Grandma was always a delight! Now as an adult I’m wondering if she minded sharing her special day with me. I’m pretty sure the answer is no, she didn’t mind at all! I loved my grandma dearly! The statue on my cake this year was a collectible. It had July on sash and a red ruby, which you can see in the picture. (July’s Birthstone)
