How to Wear Gingham

Gingham is a print that has been around for ages! In the fashion world, gingham, like florals and polka dots, rolls around every summer. When I think of gingham, I think of the traditional black and white. However, this summer you can find gingham in almost every color with updated trends like puffy sleeves, ruffles and in accessories like headbands, shoes, necklaces and bags. I even saw a how to on how to paint your nails gingham. Since gingham is a trend that doesn’t seem to go away and is simply updated, it’s a great idea to have a few pieces in your wardrobe. Similar to polka dots, gingham makes me happy! How about you?

Black and White Gingham

This black and white gingham blazer was purchased last season but has the puffy sleeve trend that continues to go strong this year! I shared this look with you last week when we were talking about styling bike shorts. You can read that blog post: HERE. The mix of a classic print like gingham along with trendy bike shorts works! You can pair this blazer with any black or white bottoms – shorts, pants, jeans. A pop of color would look great..think red shorts or pants or even yellow, which I’ll show you shortly!

This black and white gingham top has slit sleeves and small embroidered daisies. Here it’s paired with black shorts and my black and white gingham slides. I was gifted this cigar box purse. One side is the old cigar box and the other side is covered in gingham material. This would be a great DIY project for you crafty gals!

Here is the same top paired with black jeans and yellow pants. These pictures were taken several years ago. The jewelry (pin and earrings) in these pictures is vintage and was once my grandma’s!

Yellow Gingham

I recently read that matching the color of your gingham to your hair’s tone brings out the natural highlights for instant lock luster! It’s no secret that one of my favorite colors to wear is yellow perhaps that is because it goes well with my hair color and skin tone. That might be a whole other post! I didn’t own any yellow gingham so opted to order this yellow gingham dress. It’s fully lined and has pockets. It’s light weight and perfect for summer.

If you’re not a fan of wearing sleeveless and/or always cold like myself, it’s easy to layer on a lightweight summer sweater.

The dress runs true to size and comes in yellow, black, blue and red!

Blue Gingham

Besides yellow, blue is a favorite color to wear. Originally, I bought this top to wear for the Memorial Day and July 4th Holidays. However, it can be worn all spring and summer. The red embroidered detail and bell sleeves adds extra interest as does the fact that it buttons up the back. It’s been in my closet for some time and is slightly too big for me but I like it too much to part with it yet! Do you ever do that? It could probably be altered by a good seamstress. I’ve also paired this top with white jeans and red sandals. It would be cute with red or white shorts.

Gingham shorts are a cute option! These blue gingham shorts would pair great with any colored top especially a white or blue tee. I decided to pattern mix by pairing floral with the gingham.

Red Gingham

I’ve been doing a lot of on line shopping since stores have been closed. On line this top looked more white and red, but in person what I thought looked white actually looks pale pink. This red is more on the orange side and did not look right with any of my red short options. Therefore, I paired it with my white shorts and rolled with the pale pink in my slides and a belt even though these shorts don’t have any belt loops. The pleated flutter sleeves and the pleated neckline add additional interest. This top could also be worn with white jeans, blue denim shorts or red shorts if you had the right shade. This would be a cute look for July 4th!

You won’t regret it and will be able to wear it for years to come! Gingham and summer go hand in hand! I’m thinking I need some pink gingham in my life and perhaps a jumpsuit…LOL!
