Our New Feature! Weight Watching Wednesdays!

Julie and I wanted to lose weight and live healthier life styles.  In that effort Julie and her husband joined Weight Watchers in mid January.  When I learned that Julie lost 7.2 pounds her first week I immediately went online and found a meeting.  I began January 26th.  They say it’s difficult to loose weight after menopause and in midlife but we’re both having great success.  We are so excited about it that we created a new feature on our Facebook page called “Weight Watching Wednesdays!”  Each week Julie and I will update you on our trials and tribulations!  We’re just two fashion bloggers trying to be and look our best no matter our age! I Gained 25 Pounds and Nothing Fits! To Shop or Not to Shop?

How Did That Happen?

Two years ago I started a new job.  I was excited and eager for a new challenge, a fresh start, a new beginning!   A few weeks in I learned the position was not as billed during the interviewing process.  The team I was taking over was filled with dysfunction, unhappiness and a staff of people that were under performing.  This was as we say in my business a “rebuild”.  I am not new to rebuilds and in fact have created a successful career turning around poor performing organizations.  I knew I could do it.  I just didn’t expect it.  Here’s the thing, rebuilding an organization takes about 18-24 months, requires long hours and leaves little room for working out or meditating.  On top of that is it very stressful!

Which brings us to the problem.  Stress and I don’t do well together.  My reaction to stress is to comfort myself with food and drink.  Think pizza, burgers, fries, chips, popcorn and beer.  Lots of beer.  Is it any surprise 2 years have passed and I find myself 25 pounds heavier.  Managing my weight has been a life long issue but this is the heaviest I have ever been. Ugh!  It’s feels icky and makes me terribly unhappy.  Every morning I wake up and think, “What can I wear today?”  Not, “What will look cute?” or “What do I want to wear?” but “What can I wear?”  It is a daily depressing encounter with my wardrobe.  My closet is filled with things I love that no longer fit.  It is all about what can I squeeze my body into that will pass as serviceable and can be worn comfortably for ten hours.

The Dilemma – To Shop or Not to Shop?

So what to do? Nothing fits, I feel uncomfortable in my clothes and I am terribly unhappy.  The answer seems obvious.  For Pete’s sake go shopping and buy some new clothes!  It sounds so easy but it isn’t.  Shopping is hard work even when I am happy with my size.  It is daunting and almost feels impossible when I’ve gone up three sizes!  In the back of my mind I’m thinking “this is the week, I’ll start a diet and lose the weight.  I’ll be back into my old clothes in no time!” Another reason not to shop is it’s expensive.  I don’t want to spend money on clothes that probably won’t look good anyway.  Weeks passed and turn into months and then years and my situation hasn’t changed.   I still wake up every morning and think “What can I wear today?”

Then A Fortunate Stroke of Serendipity!

Christmas came and saved me.  I was shopping at Kohl’s looking to buy cute tops for my sisters.  I was browsing through the Apt. 9 section and saw this top!  What caught my eye was the beautiful color.  It is so pretty.  I also loved the flowy waist.  Perfect to hide my chubby middle.  I tried it on and it fit.  I felt cute for the first time in a very long time.   It went into my cart!

As I continued along I found this pretty sweater in the Vera Wang Section.  I loved the pattern on the front, the pretty blue color and the bow sleeves.  Things were looking up!  It too went into my cart.

Feeling embolden and having forgotten about my sisters completely I continued shopping and found this blouse from the Jennifer Lopez Collection.  Once again it is all about the details (bell sleeves, silver design, high low length and flowy waist).  You guessed it! It went into my cart!

This experience at Kohl’s completely changed my perspective.  It proved to me that I could find clothes that would look good even with my heavier frame.  My spirits were lifted beyond measure.  I felt good again!  It spurred me on to solve my pants problem.  All mine were ungodly tight!  I went online and ordered two pairs of black leggings from Express.  They are my salvation with their stretchy waist and they paired beautifully with all three tops.  I was comfortable again!  Also, this wasn’t an expensive proposition.  Kohl’s is very reasonable and with my 30% off coupon these purchases were a downright bargain!

I was no longer opposed to shopping.  My partner Julie and I went to check out a new boutique called The Little Red Ribbon and I found this beautiful cape.  To say I love this piece is an understatement.  It oozes style, is comfortable and camouflages all my sins!

A Few New Pieces Created Breathing Room

Buying some new tops and bottoms gave me more than comfortable clothes to wear.  They helped me to feel stronger and more confident.  I no longer dreaded getting dressed in the morning.  I was still unhappy about my weight but these new pieces created some breathing room and allowed me some time to figure out how to solve my weight problem.

Weight Watchers!

My FTF partner in crime, Julie, and her husband joined Weight Watchers.  She lost 7.2 pounds in her first week!  Her success inspired me to join Weight Watchers too.  I immediately went online and found a meeting near me.  That was 7 weeks ago.  I am happy to report that I’ve lost 13.6 pounds and Julie has lost 14!  We are on a roll and yet have a long way to go.  We are going to share our journey with you through a new feature called “Weight Watching Wednesdays!”  Look for it on our Facebook Page and in Future Blog posts.  We are hoping you’ll enjoy it and find some inspiration through our experience!

How to Take an Inch Plus Off of Your Waist!

How I Took an Inch Plus Off my Waist in Less Than

a Minute

Yes, you read that correctly!  Similar to my hunt for a face lift in a bottle FTF is on the constant hunt for shape wear that shaves inches, smooths, tightens and lifts!  Guess what…I found it! Introducing:

RUBY RIBBON

My dear friend, Deborah’s sister-in-law, Eileen reached out to me to see if I’d be interested in trying Ruby Ribbon’s cami and then blogging about it.  FTF is always happy to try new things but we only blog about items we like and, therefore, can recommend to you.

MEET EILEEN:

According to Eileen, “These camis not only replace your bra but they give you the lift and support your “girls” need AND hug your tummy, hide your back bulge, and eliminate muffin tops!  The camis are made with material that is completely flexible and moisture-wicking.  You’ll be able to do side bends, eat dessert, play with babies and dogs, and relax while being comfortable all day but fitting into those smaller jeans hiding at the back of your closet waiting for your diet to kick in!  We help you look fabulous and confident in all of your clothes!”

GO BRALESS – BYE BYE BRA!

This concept has never even remotely crossed my mind!  I’m much too chesty for this to ever be an option.  You might recall our blog about getting fitted for bras at Tina’s Closet.  In my mind, there is no cami that is going to hold my DDDs in place high and tight like I like them!  I must admit it took a little getting used to and I felt as though there was a bit too much jiggle.  After trying a different size and various styles and lengths, I have discovered my favorite is the “Original”.  A special thank you to Eileen for being so patient with me!

ALL DAY COMFORT:

In my opinion, the cami is very comfortable.  Unlike other body shape wear that I’ve tried, you can breathe and don’t feel restricted.  By the end of the day, I’m not running into the house to rip it off!

At first, I was a Doubting Thomas!  Where is my fat going to go???  My experience with other shape wear is that you have unusual lumps and bumps in other odd places.  I was thinking my fat was going to be coming out in my armpits.  Not the case!  It smooths your entire torso.  I know there’s some type of science that explains how it all works, but who cares!  I’m smooth without odd lumps and bumps no need for a detailed explanation!  That’s a WIN!

STAYS PUT:

Unlike other shape wear that I have tried, this cami does stay put.  You actually step into it.  The original has adjustable straps, which I love.  The rubber around the bottom of the cami holds it in place; and you wear your underwear over it…well my cami come to my hips. In other shape wear, I would sit down, bend over or move and the whole thing would roll up resulting in constant tugging and readjusting.  This is not the case with Ruby Ribbon!  That’s a WIN!

BYE-BYE BRA:

This thought was just so totally unbelievable to me!!!  However, I am able to be comfortable and well supported in just the cami.  No bra needed.  I do feel the need to state that I still have my bras, which I continue to wear.  Sometimes I choose the Ruby Ribbon especially when I need my body smoothed out.  Other times, I might choose my bra when I’m not concerned about having a super smooth torso – think looser fitting clothes.  No bra – That’s a WIN!

THE RESULTS:

Lori tried on one of my camis during our shopping trip to The Little Red Ribbon.  As you can see the very little amount of back fat that Lor has is smoothed out!  She did not want to give it back to me!  HA!

I would never dream of going out in public with just a tee-shirt on as I’d be way too self-conscious about my large chest and chub!  However, here I am able to do just that because the cami is a smoothing miracle worker!  When I was in the process of figuring out which style I wanted I had several at my house.   Eileen needed me to return them for a show she was hosting.  I about went into a cold sweat thinking I had to give them all back!  LOL  Of course, Eileen let me keep the one I liked the best.  I now own three:  black, white and beige.  I think the next one I’ll order will be the strapless cami especially with summer around the corner!

Facial Hair Removal

Beauty Tip: Shave Your Face

Yes, the title is correct-it’s not a typo.  I shave my face.  I don’t mean shave like a man… but in case you haven’t heard or seen, women can shave their face and let me tell you…it’s a game-changer.

Truth be told, I’ve had facial hair since I was very young.  I’ve tried many facial hair removal products.  Waxing seemed to work best and I waxed for years and I always hated it.  It is a necessary evil, but it’s such a harsh procedure.   It’s tough on the skin and it hurts like hell.  On top of the pain, I broke out at times.  No idea why, but it occasionally happened.  Of course, those times I broke out were right before I had an important meeting or event.

How I Learned about Feather Flamingo Facial Razor

About a year ago I was out to lunch with a coworker.   We got into the car to go back to the office and I pulled the visor down to reapply my lipstick and saw those stubborn hairs that I missed when I waxed.   I was complaining to my coworker about how I hate waxing and she told me about this product that was recommended by her dermatologist called Feather Flamingo and she loved it.  It come in packs of 3 and you can buy it on Amazon for around $6!

She went on to tell me that her dermatologist said face shaving is safe and good

Face Shaving for Women is Great because

The hair removed will not grow back thicker/darker than its original state (This is true! I personally have not had this issue.)

I don’t wear foundation, but I guess facial hair can interfere with makeup application and/or become more noticeable after applying the foundation and the Feather Flamingo (and similar products) removes all that peach fuzz and it makes makeup look amazing.

This one was an “aha” moment for me.  Facial shaving is a great way to remove dead skin from your face which is very anti-aging. This is why guys tend to age better than women!

It’s perfect for people who aren’t good with tweezers or when you need to remove facial hair in a hurry.

It’s cheap, painless at-home facial hair removal.

It’s super handy for hair removal when you’re traveling or on the go.  I love this for when I travel as waxing is not normally possible unless the hotel room happens to have a microwave where I can heat my wax.

Here’s What You Need to Know

  • Only shave your face after you’ve cleansed your skin.
  • If you are sensitive or very dry, apply a thin layer of moisturizer or coconut oil before you shave your face.
  • Always use tiny downward movements.
  • I don’t use it for my brows.  Because of the size and angle-it’s just too easy to screw up.
  • I shave my cheeks, chin, neck and my upper and lower lip.
  • Not only will you remove hair, you will also remove dead skin!
  • Always use a moisturize afterwards.
  • Hair will not grow back stubbly or dark.  First off, it’s impossible to grow back darker and this razor is so gentle that it doesn’t chop the hair off like a normal razor would, so it grows back soft!  I’ve never had stubble.
  • Your skin will feel smoother.

Results

I use the Feather Flamingo 1x a week.  Each razor is good for about 6 uses (for me).  Facial shaving leaves my skin smooth and hair free; and  I have to admit I’m a bit addicted to it now.  I no longer have to worry about the hairs that I’ve missed when I did my at-home tweezing/waxing sessions. The Feather Flamingo is also super handy for hair removal when you’re traveling or on the go; I keep one in my purse, my car (the outdoor light is the best to find all those stray hairs you missed in the house) and my toilette bag.

Finally -DO NOT SHAVE YOUR FACE WITH A REGULAR RAZOR.

While I use Feather Flamingo, I know that women also like Tinkle Facial Razors which you can also buy on Amazon.

How do you remove facial hair?

Forever Fierce 2018 Campaign

We are Bold and Beautiful Members of Forever Fierce

Ages:  56 Years Young

Fashion Trends and Friends is proud to be invited and participating in the second annual Forever Fierce Campaign!  Today we come together with 50 bloggers over the age of 50 on the 50th day of the year to celebrate Global Forever Fierce Day and answer the question, “What does it mean to be Fierce at Midlife?”

This Year’s Mission:

The mission of this campaign is to create a collaborative, supportive community to celebrate woman at midlife and beyond.  We intend to shift the paradigm and perception around midlife.  Together we are creating a “new frame” around the perception of midlife showing that “empowered woman at midlife are cool!”

What does it mean to be fierce at midlife?

The three of us discussed what FIERCE means to FTF.  Initially, we laughed and agreed that it means being able to survive an intensive week at work managing all we have to do throughout the week in our work and personal lives all while looking cute!  HA!  In all seriousness, midlife means being confident and comfortable in our own skin.  We have a wisdom and confidence from our experiences.  We agreed that many of our millennial co-workers and friends look to us for our experience and expertise in our fields and in life.  Midlife offers a settled in feeling and conversely the willingness to tackle new things following our dreams and passions!  We still have lots to look forward to and intend to be FIERCE all the days of our lives!

“You’re as Young as You Feel!”

Oh goodness, “midlife”, ugh, dreadful word….I am 63 years old, how did that happen? I seriously feel like a 23 year old trapped in a 63 year old body! I don’t feel old or middle aged. I feel better now at this age than I ever have and that makes me fierce! I walk 3-5 miles every day, eat a healthy diet and no alcohol! My health has improved drastically following this regiment. I love fashion; and I truly believe fashion helps us stay young! Care about what you wear, how you look, wash your hair every day, makeup always and most importantly, exercise your mind, socialize, have fun and BE FABULOUSLY FIERCE!!!

“The meaning of life is to discover your gifts, and the purpose is to give them away.”

In order to be fierce at midlife and achieve the success, happiness and fulfillment you desire, you must recognize ALL your gifts, the God-given natural talents you have had inside you since you were born.  Sadly, we often spend our entire lives with our gifts hidden, under-utilized or fighting against them.

It is the combination of all your talents, great and small, that make up the whole of you. They are unique to you, so no one can express them the way you can. When you embrace your whole being and know who you truly are, it empowers you and gives you a sense of fulfillment and a feeling of completeness. And when you own your fierce personal power, you are able to apply it to every aspect of your life and business, as well as step outside of your comfort zone and risk new levels or passion, performance and courage.

Be the woman who says, “I can”.
Being fierce in midlife means showing the world that life truly does exist for the mature woman. You finally transition from a youth obsessed world that only focuses on face, body and clothes and find the inner beauty that we all possess, where you can become the woman you were always meant to be. Age doesn’t define who we are or who we can become. It’s a new door to open,  a new chapter in your life that is full of endless possibilities. What really matters is looking in the mirror and accepting that person looking back at you, that is where true beauty lies. Once you accept that, you can let go of all the emotional baggage and with that weight gone, life can truly begin. You can then become that full of life, self assured, fearless woman who was always there and who now says, “Watch out world, I have arrived”.

“Live each day in gratitude for the blessings in life are often found in the most ordinary of days.”

I can sum up being fierce at midlife in two words; authentic and confident. Looking back I realize that I wasted so many years doubting myself and worrying about what others thought. I was guilty of wearing a “mask” in order to fit in to the mold that society expected. I thought that if I was genuine and expressed my true self, I would be criticized and not accepted. It left me being an over the top people pleaser. It also left me feeling sad, and unfulfilled. Once I hit midlife, something clicked in me. I began a journey of self-acceptance. My body may not be perfect, but it works hard for me. I may wear leopard and heels to run errands but hey, it makes me happy. When you are filled with joy, it naturally spreads to those around you. Love yourself ladies! God only creates masterpieces!

The devil whispered in my ear, “You’re not strong enough to withstand the storm.”Today I whispered in the devil’s ear, “I am the storm.”

What does it mean to be fierce at midlife…It means that I have the ability to accept that I am “flawsome”. Embracing my flaws and knowing that I am awesome regardless. It is a mindset that I have gotten to only by way of numerous birthdays celebrated and a lifetime of highs and lows, twists and turns, love and loss, and more bumps in the road than I can count. It has been a shift, a change in my thinking and being able to move forward. Letting go of what holds me back and of fears that keep me from being my authentic self. I have moved from assuming that my time here is a guarantee, to seeing it as a gift and an opportunity and making the most of it…I’ve now put myself in the mix of things to care about and that is a very good place to be.

“Life is tough, my darling, but so are you.” – Stephanie Bennett-Henry

Being fierce at midlife means being comfortable in your own skin and not trying to impress anyone but yourself!  Women spend so much time in their younger years trying to impress other people and often feel inferior because they compare themselves to others.  I think at midlife, women are wiser and know that they are fierce and fabulous on their own, and they don’t need validation from anyone else!  I feel women are more accepting of their bodies (imperfections and all!), and can wear whatever makes them feel beautiful and happy.  To hell with other people’s “rules.”  White after Labor Day?  Why not?  Sequins and sparkles on a Monday?  Sure!  Women at midlife play by their own rules!  With Hollywood’s Couture, I get the opportunity to create custom apparel to help women do this!  It’s very rewarding to know I can play a part in making a woman feel fierce and fabulous through their outfit.

“Being brave does not mean you lack fear.  It means that you are afraid but you do it anyway.”

For me, being fierce means being a warrior. In my 20’s and 30’s I was a warrior for myself. Fighting to figure out my way in this world and where I stood in it.

There’s a peacefulness that comes mid-life. It’s a quieting of the heart that allows you to hear better. It whispers…what is your passion? What is your purpose? It whispers and I can hear it clearly now. Now is the time to be a warrior for others.
Inevitably it’s not a choice. It was passed on from the many generations before me. My mother, my grandmother, my great-grandmother. All fierce entrepreneurs, strong, philanthropic, confident women. It’s all I’ve known. It’s all my daughters know.
Whether in my business, the charities I champion or my family as their mama bear..fighting for others is my passion. It’s what makes me fierce.

My Fierce Superpowers
Being fierce in midlife means utilizing the Lasso of Truth on myself, allowing me to realize my superpowers! In the start of my midlife journey, I find myself reaching goals and realizing dreams that I have worked toward for many years. Last year, I conquered other countries by traveling to long dreamt of beautiful places. I used my superhero combat tactics in my 28-year career, and recently added “Chief” to my title, in a field historically dominated by men.  I have navigated the field of motherhood and raised two children on my own, both close to becoming college graduates. Being fierce in midlife means that I will don my indestructible bracelets, tiara, and Lasso of Truth to transport myself through the remainder of this adventure-filled journey of the bonus years.

A woman that is fierce in midlife is a self-confident woman. This is a woman who is driven by compassion and faith. She is unstoppable.  Women are the architects of society, which means we must empower and inspire other women to achieve their goals and dreams.  Believe in yourself and what you’re doing. We must continue to unite and uplift each other, because together we are victorious and can conquer the world.  Midlife women must always know “you’re never too old to reinvent yourself.” It’s not over until it’s over so keep pushing and reaching for the stars.  We are capable of amazing things and never let anyone tell you anything different.

By definition, fierce means having an intense or ferocious aggressiveness. Fierce also means to be keen, strong, relentless, and even ass-kicking. In midlife, women need to embrace their fierceness because it is awesome. Midlife is a time to explore new opportunities with acute eagerness and enthusiasm. Pursuing these interests will cultivate inner beauty. A fierce woman fills her mind and heart with positivity. Midlife is a time to reinvest in yourself and chase your dreams. A fierce woman should participate in activities that make her feel strong. It is fierce to be a leader. A fierce woman demands recognition, stands up, and gathers that ferocious drive to guide others. This will take persistence. Being fierce is facing your fears and kicking their ass. These goals cannot be achieved alone. In midlife, it is important to create a strong, diverse community that includes, supports, and lifts all women of all ages and walks of life. Now that is fierce.

My Poshmark Buying Experience

Poshmark is a marketplace like eBay (think online thrift shopping), where sellers list their own garments and sell online through an app.   They have been around since 2011 so it had plenty of time to die out if that was its destiny.  I finally took the plunge into the much-hyped world of Poshmark.

Why I Shopped Poshmark

I love Cabi and I’m a huge “promoter”.  You can read about my love for Cabi here  but their items can be pricey and every season I have to force myself to stay within a budget when I attend a show or I could end up spending a fortune!  LOL

I know that many of the Cabi stylists sell their samples on Poshmark, so I constantly look for items I liked, but didn’t purchase.

After stalking Poshmark for over a year, I finally took the plunge and purchased my first item.  I bought this Cabi jacket.   I liked the vintage flair.   It’s part of a collection from a few years back, but the style (fringe still in) and color is classic enough to wear this season.

This jacket is car coat length and I liked that I could wear it as outerwear and as a blazer.  The jacket was $180 and I got it for $35!   Ordering was easy.   Shipping by this seller was free!   This was a nice surprise as most sellers have shipping charges.  I received the jacket within a week.  The seller wrapped it in tissue and to be honest this jacket doesn’t even look like it was worn.  I love the look.  This will be a nice versatile piece that I can dress up or down.

So, my 1st experience has been extremely positive .  I will go back to this sellers site and watch for other Cabi items she lists!

Poshmark Tips

  • Ask questions! Don’t be afraid to ask for more pictures, item descriptions, or any other questions you may have regarding an item.
  • Shipping costs Normally you pay for the shipping, but you can find sellers who include free shipping
  • Know what you’re buying  I know it’s time consuming, but it will save you a lot of heartbreak if you do some research up front. Search eBay and other Poshmark closets before settling on an item to make sure you’re getting the best deal and quality!
  • Make offers! Many sellers are flexible when it comes to price. Don’t be afraid to make an offer and see if you can bring the price down a little bit.
  • Search, search, search Poshmark is great because it takes the work out of thrift shopping.  Search for your favorite brands, styles, and sizes all in one place!

Have you used Poshmark? Do you like it more than other places you buy second-hand clothes?  Leave us a comment and let us know your thoughts!

Meet Terri Ring and The Little Red Ribbon!

Making Her Dream Come True

FTF is as much about friends as it is about fashion.  So from time to time we are going to introduce you to some of our most fashionable, creative and talented friends.  Women we love dearly.  Today we’d like you to meet Terri Ring.

Terri is the sister of one of my dearest childhood friends, Ann Basinski.  I spent much of my youth in the Basinski household and considered it a second home.

I wanted to introduce you to Terri because of her inspiring story!  About a year ago she courageously took the plunge, quit her job and made her life long dream of opening a boutique a reality.

The Little Red Ribbon is Born

To say she has been dreaming about this for years would be a massive understatement.  In fact many of the display items in her store were purchased years and years ago.  Terri stored them in her basement thinking one day I can use this for my store.  When Annie first told me that Terri was going to open a boutique, I was surprised but only because I had no idea it was Terri’s dream. However, my next thought was this makes perfect sense!  Terri is one of the most creative people I know and has always possessed great taste and style.  She is one of those people that can create beautiful yet comfortable spaces, put together the perfect party and make everyone feel at home!

Location, Location, Location!

The Little Red Ribbon is part of Roselle Main Street Merchants, a great collection of shops and restaurants.  I couldn’t wait to see Terri’s boutique so I called Julie, my FTF partner in crime, and we set a date.

The Welcoming Committee

When we walked in we were greeted by two of the cutest Jack Russell Terriers you ever saw! Terri affectionately refers to them as “the boys”.  The store like Terri’s home is beautifully decorated and welcoming.  So many interesting displays and merchandise.  The Little Red Ribbon carries women’s clothes, purses, tote bags, scarfs, jewelry, baby clothes, household goods and a very cute collection of items for the man in your life.  It is the perfect place to find a special and unique gift for any one on your list.

Let the Shopping Begin

We started at the front and worked our way meticulously through and around the entire store.  I loved the collection of sweaters, capes and tops!  Here is a sampling of what Julie and  I tried on!

I loved this coat sweater and had to have it!  It is great in the winter as part of a complete outfit and will serve as a coat in the spring and fall.

This black sweater has a split sleeve on the upper arm a flowy waist and pairs beautifully with a scarf or necklace.  I purchased both the sweater and the necklace!

Julie fell in love with this sweater.  It looked great with what she wore that day.  It also comes in black!

Check out the video showing this beautiful cape!  It is reversible and can be worn differently to create two different lengths.

I loved it so much I had to buy it and featured it in one of FTF’s Instagram posts!  I love that it is reversible!

The Little Red Ribbon also has a great collection of cards for any occasion.  This particular one cracked us up!

I also had to have this sign.  I have a black and white kitchen and it is the place everyone gathers at my house during parties which always makes me happy!

Here are some examples of the other merchandise in the store!

Terri named her store The Little Red Ribbon with the vision that one day it will be so well known that she will no longer need to put a name on the bag because when you see a white bag with a red ribbon attached you will know instantly that it came from The Little Red Ribbon.  Just like Tiffany’s blue box!  Julie and I highly recommend you stop by the Little Red Ribbon if you are in the area.  The merchandise is varied and unique.  It is one of those stores you love to shop over and over again.  Also the prices are so reasonable.  I purchased the black sweater, coat sweater, cape, white pullover(not shown), two necklaces and the sign all for $332.  Awesome, right?

Inspiring Others

Dreams are fragile precious things that deserve protection.  I think we sometimes hold them tightly to our chest and within our hearts not willing to share them for fear that naysayers, negative thoughts and opinions will put doubt in our minds and cause us not to pursue them.  So thank you Terri Ring for providing inspiration to us all!  Your personal journey shows us all that dreams really do come true!

Don’t Let Anyone Fool You Shopping is Hard Work

After a hard day of shopping Julie and I like to relax with a cold beer and some nibbles.  Terri recommended a restaurant a few doors down from The Little Red Ribbon called 8000 Miles.  It had a very welcoming staff, nice ambiance and great appetizers!   A wonderful place to take a load off after an afternoon of shopping!

Is Microblading for You?

What is Microblading?

What is microblading you ask?  According to Wikipedia, microblading, also known by a variety of names such as embroidery, microstroking, feather touch and hair like strokes, is a form of semi-permanent makeup that provides a means to partially or fully camouflage missing eyebrow hair with the appearance of simulated hair using fine deposits of cosmetic tattoo pigments. Over time the strokes can blur and fade and will need to be refreshed.

Recently, my step-daughter Tiffany had her eyebrows done.  Here is my interview with her:

FTF:

Why did you decide to get your eyebrows microbladed?

Tiffany:

My eyebrows were so light and scarce.  It would take me up to twenty minutes to draw them on.

FTF:

How long did it take to get them done?

Tiffany:

It took a half hour to draw them on.  They applied a numbing cream, which took about 25 minutes to take effect.  The actually microblading process took about an hour.  The first sitting was approximately two hours.

FTF:

Was it painful?

Tiffany:

No!  Unlike tattooing, microblading doesn’t go as deep into the skin.

FTF:

How did you know what color to pick?

Tiffany:

They recommended a color.

FTF:

How long will it last?

Tiffany:

It is suppose to last for 12 – 18 months.

FTF:

What is the cost?

Tiffany:

It costs about $450.00.

FTF:

Is there anything else I didn’t think to ask that would be helpful for someone to know when deciding whether or not microblading is for them?

Tiffany:

Yes, you can’t sweat for up to seven days and you shouldn’t get your eyebrows wet for seven days.  For the first few days, I was at home and didn’t take a shower.  I just wiped my face with baby wipes.  When I washed my face, I went around my eyebrows and used a wash cloth to rinse.  In four to six weeks, you need to go back for any corrections.

FTF:

Are you glad you had this done and would you do it again?

Tiffany:

YES!

THE RESULTS:  BEFORE & AFTER

FTF:

Where did you go for your microblading?

Tiffany:
