Dopamine Dressing Part 2 of 2

My Current Must Haves

Did you catch part 1 of Dopamine Dressing? If you missed it, you can view it HERE. For a quick recap, dopamine dressing can be different for everyone. It’s simply just wearing the clothes that make you feel good! That could be joggers and a sweater. It could be your favorite pair of jeans; or it could be that dress you were saving for a special occasion. For some, bright colors is what boosts their mood and is often associated with dopamine dressing. For me, it’s all of these plus actually putting the whole look together from head to toe. It’s putting on that outfit that makes you feel like a million bucks, stand tall and feel extra confident! Here are my absolute must haves from White House Black Market that will have you feeling AH MA ZING… and give you that Dopamine Dressing Experience!

What to Wear Now – Where Comfort Meets Chic

High-Rise Mariner Wide Leg Jeans

If you’re looking to update your wardrobe, think about giving wide leg jeans a try. Be willing to try something new – sometimes I even have to remind myself! If you’re like me, you have your favorite go-tos and for me that’s my skinny jeans. When I think about wide leg jeans, the concern is that they will add width and draw attention to the areas I like the least (hips and saddle bags – outer sides of my upper thighs). While styling women at an event at my local WHBM, I couldn’t resist giving these high-rise, wide leg jeans a try since they were so darn cute; and boy am I glad I did. The wonderful button details did not add width at the hips as I thought might happen. The high rise helps to keep them figure flattering. Not to mention they’re super soft and super comfortable. FYI: The wide leg jeans and pants are one of the hottest non-skinny jeans trends. Wide-legged trouser-like pants and jeans will highlight your waistline and add a great dimension. The wide leg jean shape is flattering and ideal for all body types. If you’re short, a cropped pair with a high-rise can give you a boost in height

How to Style High Waisted Wide Leg Jeans

Since I fell in love with the jeans first and had that dopamine feeling the minute I put them on, I decided to create two looks. For the first look, I paired the wide leg jeans with a classic white button down shirt. However, this poplin shirt gets a feminine style update with a floral embroidery design at the shoulders and sleeves. I’m always drawn to things with texture and visual interest. This shirt has both! Additionally, this is a great transitional look from winter to spring. The shirt can easily be worn with dress pants or a skirt for work.

I can hear some of you saying that you don’t wear white because of spills, etc. How great that there is also a black choice! Both come in sizes 00 – 18.

A general rule of thumb when styling a looser, wider look on the bottom half of your body is to wear something more fitted on the top. While the embroidered shirt might be considered more fancy, adding a tee in any color is a perfect match for wide leg jeans. The 3/4 Sleeve Raglan Tee in Olive was my next choice. By the way, don’t be afraid of stripes! We’ve been told (incorrectly) by our mothers or grandmothers that we shouldn’t wear horizontal stripes as they draw attention to our “wider” areas. BUT the reality is, horizontal stripes are actually one of the most flattering forms of camouflage you can wear! Basically, a stripe going across your body multiple times BLURS the edges of your silhouette. It’s almost like the stripe is sliding along your body going “nothing to see here, nothing to see here”.

The raglan sleeves and stripe pattern combo on this comfy cotton slub tee create a striking look. A go-to tee for casual outings. Made from cotton and LENZING™, a sustainably sourced fabric that is known for its softness. The tee also comes in OPEN STRIPE TRUE INDIGO, SOLID BLACK AND SOLID WHITE sizes xxs – xl.

Depending on where you live, I’m in Chicagoland. Our springs are a mixed bag of weather so in order to accommodate those spring days that can be cold, adding another layer is a great solution. I chose the versatile casual cropped jacket, with two chest pockets. The silhouette is feminine and powerful, perfect with your favorite jeans and jewelry. The cropped jacket still allows the beautiful button detail on the jeans to show. The girls at the store loved how the whole look came together…I did as well! #dopaminedressing!

You know that in my professional styling opinion no look is ever complete until you’ve added some fantastic accessories! If you haven’t checked out WHBM accessories, you need to as they have such beautiful pieces and many can be worn multiple ways. The Mixed-Metal Coin Short Necklace is the perfect piece to stand out on its own or to wear with other pieces for a layered necklace look! You know in my world, more is always better!

I’m wearing the color “STILETTO”.

I’ve always felt that certain clothes gave me confidence and with that I was dopamine dressing and didn’t even know I was ☺️ thanks for sharing these great options I’d wear them all!

      Hi Nancy!

I’m with you! I always knew that certain looks/outfits gave me a great feeling and confidence. However, I didn’t know it actually had a name. I think the term Dopamine Dressing is relatively new.

      HI Cat!

I appreciate your kind comments! I did/do feel like a million bucks in these outfits! I like you wasn’t sure wide legs would work for me especially since I lean towards skinny jeans. I think you just need to give various styles, cuts and brands to see what works best on your body type.

      Hi Nipa!

I appreciate your kind comments! I didn’t think wide leg jeans would be flattering on me either especially since my go to has been skinny jeans. I’m so glad I tried them. I try to encourage others to try new things (including myself – LOL!)

I randomly ordered a pair of denim overalls from Amazon last week and absolutely love how they look on me. Not something that I would have gone for before but I am so glad I did now I need another pair with a different shade of denim!

      Hi Rena!

Isn’t fun to try new things isn’t it?! It’s even better when you find something you like and would have never dreamed of wearing before! I’ve been wanting overalls but have yet to find a pair that fit well and are flattering but I’ll keep trying! Once you find something you like, it’s a great idea to get all the colors especially if it will get lots of wear!
