Stylish Monday

Cozy Chic

This month’s Stylish Monday theme is “Cozy Chic”! It’s a perfect theme for me and for once I wasn’t in a full on panic thinking, “What do I have to wear that fits this theme?” It’s similar to I have a closet full of clothes but nothing to wear…LOL! Living in Illinois I have plenty of “Cozy Chic” and perhaps have issues with the number of sweaters I own! When I think “Cozy Chic”, I think all kinds of sweaters in all kinds of styles and colors! Sweaters can be dressed up or down and styled to fit all occasions! What comes to mind for you when you think “Cozy Chic”?

Cardigans

Cardigans are a great way to be cozy chic throughout the fall, winter and even spring months here in Illinois! They are figure flattering on all body types and cover up your backside well! That’s what I like! Cardis are easy to dress up or down and pair well with leggings or skinny jeans and pants. Although I’m not much of a dress or skirt wearer, cardis can also be styled with both. As you can see, I have several in my wardrobe! The leopard/cheetah print cardis were purchased last year; and I’m wearing them again this year! The cardi on the far right was purchased this year. You can find cardis in almost every color!

This camo cardi was purchased last year at Target! I’ve worn it multiple times and styled it various ways! Here it’s paired with gray jeans; and below it’s paired with gray leggings and a solid white blouse, worn to work and out casually!

Leggings: from Soft Surroundings gifted to me

This last cardi was also purchased last year. I’m not usually a fan of sweaters with hoodies as it adds extra bulk in my coats and who really wears the hood? Not me! In Illinois during the winter months, heavy coats are a must! The stripes and colors drew my attention!

Leggings from last year: Amazon

Loved this striped cardigan paired with the leopard print cami! As you can see, Lori and I styled it very similarly. Paired with jeans is casual and can also be dressed up with skinny black dress pants. This cami is also reversible and is solid black, which is also a great match for this cardi!

Embellished & Metallic Sweaters

When I think chic, I think unique, which lends itself to all things embellished with sequins (big and small), graphic images or sayings! I’m naturally attracted to embellishments and unique statement pieces. This fashion statement might not be for everyone but can be fun so go ahead and try pushing yourself out of your comfort zone!

This sweater is covered in small multi-colored sequins so I’ve included a close up so you could see it in better detail. I paired it with my leather pants, my sequined heeled booties and wore it to my Christmas get-together with Lori and Lynn. As you can see, we all like to be fancy! We’re like minded gal pals!

Initially, I was going to pass up this cropped sweater because it was cropped; and it was in a store that I never shop as it was my impression that the particular store caters to a younger audience. (The store went out of business.) I’m glad I didn’t limit myself. This cropped sweater pairs great with high waisted dress pants that tie at the waist. Since high waisted jeans are also trending, it can be styled more casual. I work a black tank underneath just for some added coverage.

Gold Metallic Shoes (from my closet)

Maybe you prefer to only have a touch of embellishment. You can find sweaters that are “Cozy Chic” with minimal bling like this turtleneck. The only embellishment is on the neckline. Wearing all of one color is called column dressing and can add height and thin you out. I couldn’t resist adding my plaid with rhinestone heel booties, which were originally feathered in this blog post: HERE along with my white fury coat!

White Fury Coat: Express
Red Pants (my closet)
Plaid Booties: Dillard’s Betsey Johnson

Dream Away…why of course! Love the message and the embellishment! I’ve worn this sweater dressed up with a blazer as well as with jeans! It’s no surprise that I like to be extra especially extra fancy but you can almost always wear things multiple ways to get an extra bang for your buck! I think embellished sweaters scream “Cozy Chic” and aren’t just for the holidays!

Sweaters with metallic threads add some extra bling and chic! They can be found almost anywhere and are easily dressed up or down. Here are three sweaters all with some type of shimmer or metallic threads (not easily photographed…ugh!). I’ve worn them with the same jeans but they could also be dressed up by pairing them with dress pants!

Sweaters in All Colors and Styles

On occasion we get an unseasonably warm winter in Illinois, or we get a few days that are warm usually in the 40’s or 50’s! The day after Christmas this year was in the 50’s. We had planned to spend the day with our granddaughter going ice skating at Millennium Park, went to the world’s largest Starbucks Reserve and Chicago Botanical Garden light show. Mr. FTF got some great pictures of her first time on the ice. I hadn’t been skating in over 20 years but managed not to fall! All this to tell you that this fair isle sweater was a perfect way to be “Cozy Chic” for all of our activities and didn’t need to be covered up with a coat until that evening!

Fair Isles Sweater: Saks off 5th
Striped Jeans: Express

This fair isle sweater was an immediate winner for me due to the unique, bright color along with some silver metallic accents! It pairs great with my grey jeans. It could also be worn with blue jeans, white jeans, leggings or dress pants. It’s pretty long and if you’re shorter than me (5’8″) it could be worn like a tunic.

Playing off of the white in the sweater, I opted to wear my white shearing/reversible coat! This particular day I was off to several doctor’s appointments, a lunch date and shopping with my girlfriend Cindy!

In Illinois, the winter months can seem to drag on and on and on! I tire of all of the dark colors over time. Therefore, finding sweaters with bright non-traditional winter colors is often very appealing to me! I’m a fan of bright colors no matter the season!

Animal prints continue to be on trend so go wild! Here are some of my newer collection of animal print sweaters! I think it goes without saying that sweaters are easily paired with anything: jeans, leggings, dress pants, skirts and even worn over dresses! You’re only limited by your imagination and fashion sense/comfort! Animal print sweaters are definitely “Cozy Chic”!

This month Andy asked each of where we live and what our weather is like at this time of year. I thought this was a great idea so am sharing each beauties response!

Nina Bandoni of Sharing a Journey
Nina lives in Florida. “The winters are very mild and temperatures fluctuate between 50 and 80.  We have a few colder days in January.  Only people who live in Florida bundle up and wear jackets in the winter. The tourists wear shorts and flip flops no matter what! “
Suzanne Bell of Ask Suzanne Bell
Suzanne lives “in Los Altos, a town located in Northern California (much different weather than Southern California). We live in the heart of Silicon Valley, 5 miles from Palo Alto and Stanford University.

We have year-round mild weather. I like to say we have 2 seasons…cold and hot. We can get bouts of rain (last snow was when I was in second grade), but as you can see in my photo, a light coat is really all you need – unless you head to San Francisco or the Coast. We all have puffer vests and puffer coats around here, but those pics aren’t that chic.”
Nancy Baten of Nancy’s Fashion Style

Nancy lives in the Netherlands. “We have grey winters, with less sun and a lot of rain. Normally it’s about 5 degrees Celcius in Winter. We perhaps will have about 7 days of snow. Which is 7 days to much for me!”
Andrea Schwartz of Pearls and Pantsuits
Andy lives in northwest Louisiana, “where our weather is whatever it wants to be! It’s 71 degrees as I type this! The next few months will probably be rainy and cool, but who knows? Not even the weather man!”
Cindy Scurry at Middle Sister Style Blog
Cindy lives in Denver, Colorado. Sunny but cold!
Robin LaMonte of Hello I’m 60ish
Robin lives in Atlanta, Georgia. “Atlanta weather seldom calls for a winter coat except for a couple of weeks in February, but I hear we’re expecting a colder winter than usual!
I always wear wraps and gloves in the winter here in Atlanta.”
Nicole Molders of High Latitude Style
Nicole lives in Alaska. “Our winter is 7 months long and can have anything from around the freezing point to way below -40F or -40C.” See this post for the absolute Must-wear at -40 https://highlatitudestyle.

Emma Peach of Style Splash
Emma is from the UK – “currently living in Cheshire in the North West. The weather here has been mild and wet so far over Winter but we often get a cold spell in January/February.”
Hilda Smith of Over the Hilda
Hilda lives in Ireland. “Ireland and can be a little cold but we have had a lot of rain this winter….No snow but some cold north winds at times.”

You have a fantastic collection of cardigans and sweaters…I love them all! I took my daughter ice skating just after Christmas – she had never done it before, although she roller skates every week, but I hadn’t skated in about 30 years! I managed not to fall over but the hire skates wrecked my feet!

      Hi Emma,

Thanks for your kind words! I always enjoy our collaborations and especially your sense of style!

Glad to hear you didn’t fall while ice skating! It’s fun to know we can still do things we haven’t done in a long time and still do it without injury – LOL!
