Sizzl’in Summer Styles

Stylish Monday and Linkup Party

Summers in Chicagoland can be a mixed bag of weather! Midwesterners laugh and say that if you don’t like the weather stick around; it will change in a few seconds. In general, it can be very hot and humid. Being an educator and having most of my summers off, my summer uniform tends to be a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. FTF did a previous post on wearing shorts over 50: click HERE. We also did a post on wearing the currently trendy bike shorts: click HERE.

This summer it has been mostly hot, which I love; and I’ve been more inclined to wear dresses, which is slightly out of my norm but so easy to style, super comfortable in the heat and cute for heading out with friends and loved ones on a social distancing basis.

Little White Dress

This little white dress can easily be dressed up as I’m wearing it; or down if you prefer a more casual look. I added my gold wedges and some fun summery statement jewelry. This dress is fully lined and is a decent length on me. The flutter sleeves and empire waist add some interest and detail! I choose to wear this when I was meeting my Chicago Midlife Blogging friends for a shopping and dinner date!

Little Black Dress

This little black dress is also easy to dress up or down and add any pop of color for some interest! I wore this look on the day I trained the new teachers in my school district. It could be worn out with friends, date night, etc. Similar to the white dress, it’s easy to pull on, style and go. Due to the low square neckline, I opted to wear my bralette so that I wouldn’t have to wear a strapless bra. The puffy sleeves add some interest. The cut of both dresses is figure flattering!

Leopard Print Dress

This leopard print dress was a huge hit! It has so much going for it. Similar to both previous dresses, you simply put it on add some accessories and go! I added neutral accessories but you could add any pop of color for some additional interest! I wore this dress out to drinks and to a shopping fundraiser. The material doesn’t wrinkle, which is a big winner in my book! All three dresses are from Target! Target has really upped their game! Each dress was under $30! Remember you don’t have to break the bank to be cute and on trend!

Striped Dress

Yellow and blue are two of my favorite colors to wear! Additionally, I love stripes so this dress called my name immediately. Tiered dresses are currently trending as well! If you’re an avid FTF follower, you’ll recall that I shared this dress on my blog post about lemon print summer styling: click HERE. Similar to the white dress, I like the flutter sleeves. Like all of the other dresses shared here, you can throw this dress on, accessorize and go! That’s styling made easy for sure! All of the dresses have a similar cut, which is figure flattering.

Striped Dress: Loft
Neon Yellow Sandals: Amazon
Lemon Earrings and Necklace: Cora’s Den

All four of these dresses have been great for bringing some “sizzl’in style” to my summer wardrobe but they’ll also transition into fall by adding jackets, cardigans and even wearing them over leggings and jeans! That will really be a big bang for my buck! Don’t forget to think about how to transition your pieces into several seasons!

“I’ve recently discovered the joy and freedom that comes with wearing a Caftan. Dress her up or down, with flats or heels… there’s an instant glamour associated with this one-and-done timeless silhouette that has me dreaming of Palm Beach and mimosas poolside.” Suzanne Bell of Ask Suzanne Bell
“This thrifted sundress with built in bra is how I beat the summer heat!“

“For me nothing speaks more Sizzling Summer than a white dress. And some evening sun, long hot Summer Eve’s with cocktails!”
Nancy Baten of Nancy’s Fashion Style
“We are taking the sizzle out of summer but keeping all the good stuff. Find out how to melt proof your makeup, choose the coolest clothes, look and feel amazing in the heat.”
Nina Bandoni of Sharing a Journey
“Sizzling Summer is my jam in the most colorful pair of shorts I own and an asymmetrical black camisole, because – balance. Both of these pieces are silk which means they are comfortable and super light to beat the heat! Plus my shorts have drawstring elastic band which makes it OK if you have to eat or drink a little more, while on a dinner night out – like I was when I wore this outfit.”
Ada Furxhi of Elegance and Mommyhood
“Summer days don’t get that hot in the Tanana Flats in Alaska. 90F is a hot one. Interestingly, farther north in the Yukon Flats, Alaska’s temperature record was measured at 100F at Ft. Yukon.”
Nicole Molders of High Latitude Style
“Maxi dresses are my favourite way to keep cool without compromising on style when the weather heats up. Paired with flat sandals and a crossbody bag, they are perfect for
day and night.”

Julie yeay I foiund your blog and what an awesome one it is! Though we are different generations, our styles are similar because I too love dresses, lots of fun and colorful accessories and I love shopping at Target and Loft. As a matter of fact I own that Loft Dress and the Leopard piece. You styled these all so well Julie. You also look great in a square neckline!
