DIY – Sunglass Dups

DIY – SUNGLASS DUPS

Have you ever had an obsession with something but refused to spend the money?  That’s exactly what happened to me prompting a DIY blog post, a first for FTF.  I really do love doing projects and love a good DIY.  Lack of time is usually what prohibits me from doing more DIY.  However, after searching the internet high and low for these Alice + Olivia sunnies for $525.00, I decided to DIY a pair!

DOLLAR STORE:

While shopping for something else at the Dollar Tree, I spotted these large black framed sunnies.  They caught my eye while I was standing in the check out line.  I loved how they looked and thought they were perfect for my Dup Project.  The only difference is that they don’t have mirrored lenses.  I’m sure I could have found a pair if I went on a hunt.  These felt good enough especially for $1.00.

RHINESTONE FLOWERS:

While cleaning out desk drawers, I discovered that I still had these rhinestone flowers.  I purchased these five years ago to use in my 25 year wedding vow renewal bouquet.  Unfortunately, I don’t recall where I purchased them or how much I spent on them.  Guaranteed they weren’t super expensive so I’m really ahead of the game in terms of cost on this DIY!  I did find some similar options at Hobby Lobby.

HOBBY LOBBY OPTIONS:

SUPPLIES:

I grabbed the wire cutters from my husband’s work bench and some super glue!  In a matter of minutes, my dup sunnies were done and ready to wear all for $1.00!  Winner!  Winner!

MY VERSION:

I’m super happy with the finished project!  Super cheap!  Super easy!  Super fun!

Not to mention a savings of over $500.00!

I made a second pair with the rhinestone flowers from Hobby Lobby…

So what do you think?  Are you a fan of DIY projects?

If you’re not into DIY, here are some similar embellished sunglass options available for a reasonable price at Amazon.

      Hi Jodie,

I agree! I have lots of creative ideas just not the time. I was so obsessed with the high end glasses, but would never spend that kind of money. I was sure it would be a really simple, quick and fun DIY. I was right!
