It’s an indisputable fact: We like to shop – from department stores, to specialty stores, to online retailers! We’ve added some of our favorites and thought you might want to add a few more shopping haunts to your rotation.
In the category of department stores, Nordstrom is one of our favorites. Of course, it has a massive selection of brands and product categories and a generous Topshop department. Not to mention fast, free shipping and returns. It’s the great customer service we love!
Stein Mart has something for everyone! The boutique has one of a kind items that are on trend! The jewelry, shoe and purse departments will not disappoint – great, selection of very original items and in all sizes! The price point of all items is much lower than other high end department stores. Julie often gets asked where she shops. Stein Mart is always at the top of her list!
ModCloth has a reputation as the whimsical official supplier to the millennial. Cindy found out about the site from a number of millennial’s coworkers. Make no mistake: it’s not just for the millennial. They have a great selection of fun, playful dresses that aren’t just for the young. What we love is that many items run from XS to 4X, right there on the same product listing, no clicking to a separate plus-size section! Cindy’s favorite is their shoes – great selection, well made and great fit. Prices won’t break the bank. If you haven’t been to their site, we recommend you check it out.
Michael Kors is a nice blend of traditional, staple pieces with a modern/trendy twist. The quality of Michael Kors’ items is excellent and will last for many seasons. We also like the shoes, jewelry and purse lines!
Macy’s is another top pick in regards to department stores. Julie loves their I.N.C. International Concept line of clothes for women. We are a big fan of the fact that the clothes are trendy and usually have an element of pizzazz. They have a curvy line of pants/jeans that fits our bodies perfectly; Julie she can typically go down a size. Who doesn’t love that?
Called the “Sole of Chicago” Lori’s Shoes started in ’83 in a small storefront in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood. She was the first we know of that sold Designer Shoes at discount prices. We remember being in our 20’s and waiting in line outside to get in because the store was that small and the crowds were that big!
Fast forward… Lori’s now occupies nearly 4500 square feet stocked with thousands of shoes, boots, bags, accessories and most recently apparel. Way to go Lori’s! She also has two suburban locations on Chicago’s North Shore, as well as her website. If you live in Chicago you need to grab your girlfriends and check out one of her locations. If you are out of state, check out her website!
Charlotte Russe targets young women so it is a great place to find the season’s latest trends at reasonable prices. They sell shoes and accessories so if you’re short on time it’s a place you can pop in and quickly put an entire outfit together. They also have a great plus size collection on line and in select stores. Coupons are easy to find so if you love a deal this store is for you!
Charming Charlie is an accessory dream come true store! We love the fact that the whole store is organized by color. You can find the trendiest accessories and the prices are super reasonable! We can spend hours looping around and around until we see everything!
WHBM offers high end black and white clothing with seasonal accent colors. It is a fun experience to shop here with friends because the store provides seating in the middle of the changing area. You can comfortably hang out while your friends are trying on clothes. The staff happily assists, getting you different sizes, suggesting different pieces, and helping to create great looks. WHBM also offers fun shoes, belts, and jewelry. They have a great rewards program. This is absolutely one of our favorite stores!
Chico’s rotates their selection on a regular basis. The style of clothing is geared to the more mature woman. This is not one of those boring mom stores. Chico’s carry trendy items that age appropriate. We love their jewelry selection as well. They carry some big statement pieces that really stand out and complete the outfits.
This catalog and online retailer is one of our favorite places to shop for swimwear. Venus provides a great selection of bikinis, tankinis, one-piece suits, cover-ups, swim wraps, and skirts. Their reasonable prices allow you to buy multiple suits in different styles and colors. Venus also offers a full clothing line, accessories, handbags, and shoes.
If you are looking for on-trend styles with age-appropriate fits that you won’t see in the department stores, then you should definitely check out Boston Proper’s site. We can always find something new to order when we get their catalogs or just pursuing their site. What we like best is that their selection invokes glamour and feeling sexy yet polished. Items run true to size and depending on the item, you can order down one size!
