Fashion Rules for Over 50

FASHION RULES FOR OVER 50…Were Meant to Be Broken!

You’ve probably heard them all before:

  • Cut your hair short.
  • Keep you legs covered.
  • Wear all black.
  • Don’t go sleeveless.
  • Only wear loose fitting clothes.
  • Skipped ripped jeans.  I’ve even heard we’re not suppose to wear jeans at all!  RIDICULOUS!

and the list goes on and on…

FTF feels strongly that no silly fashion rules will dictate what we’ll wear!  Not only will we bear our legs but we’ll continue to wear shorts as long as we like and feel good/confident wearing them!

SHORTS OVER 50:  Talbots

Lori feels her legs are an asset!  I’d have to agree!  She blogged about it here

We both agree that we wouldn’t wear super short shorts but prefer a mid-length over long bermuda shorts.  For that reason, Talbots is great for offering shorts in varying lengths.  Shorts come in 5″, 7″, 9″, 10.5″ and 13″ lengths.  They also have solids and prints.

On a side note, while putting this blog together, I fell in love with the Chambray Scalloped Short.  Since our weight loss journey, I’m needing to add new, smaller sizes to my wardrobe.  I need these shorts!  HA!

SHORTS OVER 50:  Loft

In my hunt for new shorts due to needing smaller sizes, thank you Weight Watchers, I recently purchased several cute pairs at Loft. How cute is the tie waist detail on these shorts?!  The tops are also Loft!  (I did want to emphasize that even prior to my weight loss I wore shorts that I felt flattered my figure; and I felt cute and comfortable wearing!  That is the key!)

Sorry, I digress for a minute…wanted you to see the back of this top!

I had to include the next pic!  I was going to lunch with my mom and her friends.  My mom and I often show up wearing the same color palette!  Ironically, all her friends were in black and white!  We should have gotten a pic!

SHORTS OVER 50:  KOHLS

My other short purchases so far this season has been at Kohls.  When I find an item that fits me well, I don’t hesitate to purchase it in multiple colors and prints.  These Apt. 9 shorts fit that exact description.  I purchased them in this print, black, blue, white and orange.  They also come in gray and a neutral.  I like the side cut pockets, which I feel are figure flattering even when I was heavier.  I like the detail of the cuffs and belt loops.  When you find an item you like, do you purchase multiples?  Is that another silly rule?

Had to include this picture with my favorite girlie!

      Hi Jodie,

I couldn’t agree with you more! It never even crossed my mind that we shouldn’t be wearing shorts. I guess I never think about fashion rules applying to me at any age. If it looks good on me, I’m wearing it!

You both look amazing in your shorts. I am the opposite as my legs are NOT an asset so I try to stick to capris and skirts. Luckily there are many options out there.

Thanks Debi! We appreciate your kind words! That’s why at any age it’s important to wear what you’re comfortable wearing and feel confident in regardless of some silly rules that who knows who made up!
